Breathe Easy Shelby County believes everyone deserves to breathe smoke-free air. Our goal is to pass a comprehensive smoke-free air policy for Shelby County so that all employees can exercise their right to breathe smoke-free air at work.

 

Secondhand smoke contains more than 40 cancer-causing substances. Breathing secondhand smoke increases your risk of heart disease and lung cancer.

• An estimated 1,426 Hoosiers die each year from secondhand smoke exposure.

• There is no safe level of secondhand smoke exposure.

• Even brief exposure to secondhand smoke is harmful.

• Ventilation may reduce some of the smell, but not the harmful chemicals.

• It is more than an annoyance
